Organizational | Individual | Strategic Partner | Student Organizational MembershipThrough Organizational membership with MLA, your library and staff will benefit from advocacy, education, and opportunities to engage with the statewide library community that help advance the library profession, promote and protect our libraries and provide the best possible library service to our communities. Organizational membership also gives libraries discounts on staff memberships, library directors receive a complimentary individual membership as representatives of their organizations, plus our new Linked Trustee benefit for organizational members grants complimentary membership benefits to all of your library’s trustees. Organizational Membership Dues RatesThe Organizational Membership Dues Year is July 1 – June 30 to coincide with MLA’s Fiscal Year. Organizational Dues for library members are based on the operating expense budget of the library, library cooperative or consortium, or library school. The operating expense budget includes the following: The total cost necessary to support the provision of library services including total staff expenditures, total collection expenditures, and other operating expenditures. No capital purchases or pass-through purchases for other organizations will be used to calculate organizational dues.
JOIN OR RENEW AS AN ORGANIZATIONAL MEMBERIndividual MembershipIndividual Membership is available for library staff, trustees, and retired library professionals, as well as individuals that are supportive of libraries and the library profession. Joint membership with MLA and the American Library Association (ALA) is available for Library and Information Science students. Individuals who work for a library, library cooperative or consortium, or a library school that is a current Organizational Member of MLA are eligible for the discounted affiliated membership. Whether you are interested in membership with MLA to grow your career, or you want to support libraries and the library profession, MLA has a membership option that is right for you. Individual Member Types and Dues RatesIndividual membership dues are assessed on an anniversary basis and are valid for 12 months from the time you join. MLA members enjoy a 60-day grace period on renewal dues, after which memberships will be canceled for non-payment.
JOIN OR RENEW AS AN INDIVIDUAL MEMBERStrategic Partner MembershipStrategic Partner memberships are available for organizations that would like to partner with MLA and connect with the Michigan library community. Strategic Partner Members are entities that are supportive of and have an interest in libraries, library cooperatives, consortiums, or library schools including non-profit organizations that partner with libraries as well as businesses that provide goods and services to the library community. Through a Strategic Partner membership, your organization or business can connect with the library community in Michigan. Whether you provide products and services to libraries or you are a non-profit organization that would like to partner with libraries to get the word out to patrons about your resources or programs, Strategic Partner membership can further your organization's mission while supporting our mission to lead the advancement of all Michigan libraries. Strategic Partner Dues RatesThe Strategic Partner membership year is July 1 – June 30 to coincide with MLA’s Fiscal Year. Strategic Partners interested in joining outside of the member year should fill out the online membership form or contact us at (517) 394-2774 or [email protected]. When we process your membership we will calculate your dues so your next renewal will coincide with MLA's fiscal year.
Unaffiliated Individual membership is also available for those interested in working with MLA at an annual rate of $170. If you are an author, sole-proprietor or individual performer, our Unaffiliated Individual membership may be a better option. At $42 annually, Library and Information Science students will become a member of both the American Library Association and the Michigan Library Association.
